Back at the Ranch

For the past couple of summers the kids and I head to the ranch for about six weeks.  We would stay longer but football practice starts too darn early.  My intentions were for my first post to be all about the drive out, complete with pictures and witty stories about all our adventures along the way.

Didn’t happen….. I did take one picture of the trailer once we got it loaded.

After that we were too focused on the road to take pictures or have adventures that would have made witty stories, we just wanted to get here.

Usually when people ask me how long a drive it is from MN to the Ranch I say, “between 12 and 13 hours” and that is usually in the ball park, unless of course there are bad roads then it can take as long as 17 or 21 but that’s a story for another time.  Generally during the summer months we can make it in 12 to 13 hours.  But that is with 2 adults and 2 kids……

This year we brought Max’s friend Connor and also stopped near Rapid City to pick up Max’s friend Nicholas and we also have a dog this year and a cargo trailer.  So, I have discovered that with 1 adult, 4 kids, 1 corgi and a cargo trailer it takes a wee bit longer.  We pulled out of our driveway at 7:20 am cst and 16 and half hours later pulled into the Ranch.  It makes for a long day…..  But boy did it sure feel good to get out of the car!

Favorite kid quote from the drive:

Kid 1 “I sure feel bad for Toga she’s been cooped up in that kennel all day”

Kid 2 “Think about it, we’re really not any better off, at least she can lay down”

Stay tuned for highlights from last week, none of which involved sitting in a car for 16 hours.
